What scares you?
Here’s a 50-word mini-saga for you. Silver members may read more about the amazing Mini-Saga’s here. = > http://tinyurl.com/2ul5z9
Holy poop! It’s a BIG shark! Swimming my way! Through the cavern twenty feet below me. Swim away slowly at a 90 degree angle. Breathe. Don’t look back, yet. Swim away. The fish aren’t worried. Hmm. Breathe. Head for the beach, hang out with the fish.
I ask again – What scares you?
When you’re present, you can see danger early and clearly. I did. If you stay present, breathe, you can notice the fish aren’t scared. Fish are easier food, bite size, and closer, they don’t even appear to notice this monster predator.
Afterward, back at the beach rental, my research tells me, the fish know. This large guy, five feet long, is the white tipped reef shark who feeds on the bottom, right where I saw him. He likes lobsters not third-aged men.
Fear is the enemy, not sharks. What are the sharks in your day-to-day life? Stay present and notice. You’ll be fine.
Need help with staying present? Get Simply Serene. It will tell you how. Really, it’s a great ebook.

Cool Way to Stretch
Your Story Telling Muscles
Write an exactly 50-word mini saga. I hear this can become quite addictive. I enjoyed writing this one, it’s a memoir --
Certainly, you can write your mini-saga longhand. The more intimate the saga the better it lends itself to handwriting. Handwriting may also bring you more into the present than keyboarding.
Play with it. Experiment.
I like MS Word because it’s easy to track how many words I’ve composed using its word count tool. It even has a toolbar you can use to keep a quick count.
What would your life be like if you wrote one a day for a month?
This idea for the 50-word mini saga comes from A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future by Daniel Pink. Enjoy the book.
Blessings,
William

Orion
Predawn, on the dock, overlooking the Sound, I see Orion rising over the hill behind our condominium for the first time this season. I recall this was Dad’s code name during the war – the hunter – recovering looted Nazi art. I am saddened I never heard those stories from my father. (50 words.)

Evening
Evening
It’s one o’clock in the morning and my brother, John, and I are sitting on either side of my father’s hospital bed in the quiet, dimly lit care unit in lovely costal southern California.
Our father is dying.
For several hours he has been disappearing into some realm where we could not follow. He stops breathing. Minutes pass. Then with a huge effort he takes another breath and returns.
He talks with us, making sure things are good between us, stays as long as he can, then some wind sweeps him away on his journeys. He repeats his coming and going all night.
John and I peacefully observe this profound mystery unfold.
My brother and I each have 30 year meditation practices. We’re comfortable just sitting. Just breathing. Even while our father dies.
It was intense, and it was sweet.
It was one of the richest times of my life and continues to inform my work and inspire my life.
The film, Evening, parallels John’s and my journey with our father.
I recommend you watch it. Here’s why. You can upgrade your right brain, (one of my four alluring paradigms) with this film.
This film will present you with beautiful design (one of the six skills for upgrading your right brain). It takes place by the sea in Newport, RI in a beautiful mansion.
I mostly want you to see it for its ability to fortify your empathy. Empathy is another of the six right brained skills you need to navigate the 21st C. Strengthening your empathy enhances your ability, as well as everyone else’s, to thrive.
Vanessa Redgrave plays Ann who is dying and drifting into and out of this and other realms like my father who thought he was in France. Claire Danes plays Ann as a young woman in the flashbacks.
The two sisters are played by Toni Collette and Natasha Richardson, who is the real life daughter of Vanessa Redgrave. Their bedside scenes will move you.
Some of the most fun, yes fun, and deepest wisdom come from the interactions between Ann and Ilene Atkins, the night nurse, while she is wearing a ball gown.
Even with all this death, my fathers and Ann’s, you will be richer for the journey.

Sacred Intervention
You’re riding your bike at a good clip through the early fall grayness and suddenly, you glance a swath of glorious green, sun light illuminating the ridge, just there…
“Wow…”
For a moment, you’re speechless, everything stops and you’re in heaven. You feel deep serenity. You experience the peace which passeth understanding.
“Oh this is cool, I should tell people about this…” your mind is back and chattering again.
But even with the renewed chatter that inevitably comes, everything has changed by this intervention of the Sacred upon the mundane.
Your ego mind can’t let this peace stand too long. It will reassert itself with its familiar chatter. But for this brief moment, the veil between you and Heaven drops and you see clearly.
You look upon everything with a renewed eye, perhaps, for the rest of your life. Maybe just for this morning.
Do you know what I’m talking about?
How often does this happen to you? Daily?
Want more? I aim at experiencing this Heaven multiple times a day. It is part of why I do the work I do.
Want to know how to have these experiences on demand?
You can touch Heaven any time by utilizing spiritual practices that bring you into the present.
Painting, Taiji, drawing, making love, and meditation are all ways to get there. Cooking and gardening work for clients of mine. Drinking a cup of tea in silence will do it.
SIMPLY SERENE has four beautiful and easy ways you can do it.

Three Iguanas
True.
Imagine standing in a huge noisy, florescent-lighted hall after an exhausting cross Pacific flight. You creep forward slowly in line at U.S. customs.
You’re getting closer to the head of the line.
Slow.
Maybe you’re sweating a bit. After all you have three live, endangered iguanas hidden in your prosthetic leg.
What!
Yes! Three iguanas. Alive!
You get to hear about this because the heinous Jerome Jameson was caught smuggling them.
No one asked him what his goals were, of course. Anyhow, he might have limply replied, “The money, of course.”
And they would have left it at that. But what did he want the money for?
Although I deplore his actions, I applaud his willingness to go the extra mile to achieve his goals.
What do you want money for? Hint – you want stuff because of the way you think the stuff will make you feel. Right?
Get clear on what you want.
Then take action.
What action steps are you willing to take to get what you want?
Obviously, you can get great help uncovering what you really want in The Magic Formula - How to Magically Attract the Life You Most Want
Go for it => http://tinyurl.com/28gmm2
And the iguanas? Happily, the iguanas are making iguana love in a breeding program.

Romantic Arias and Mozart
Here’s an Exactly-50-Word Mini-Saga –
Romantic arias and Mozart’s sacred choral music replace the Beatles and Bossa Novas at home. Golden Baroque trumpet music replaces the omnipresent sounds of pacific surf at my office. Yellow and red leaves skitter across our driveway as I walk up from the beach. I become more interior in autumn.
I wonder what changes for you, dear reader, as your seasons change?

“The Spiders Are On My Tomatoes!”
“The spiders are on my tomatoes!” she cried, “and my husband is in front of the TV watching football... ”
The seasons change. Here in the northern hemisphere my patient laments the coming of winter, the loss of her garden signaled by the spiders, and the loss of her husband to televised sports until spring. He does emerge in the spring along with her flowers.
What is your lament about the season change?
How can you ritualize the loss of the last season?
What can you get excited about in the season to come?
You can make your seasonal transitions beautiful when you look with an artist’s eye or a poet’s heart.
And remember Ecclesiastes’ wisdom text.
To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
The rest goes on in this fashion. I am fascinated by the pairings. (You can read it all here.)
Dive into the seasonal changes.
My goal is to enjoy the loss of each season, and celebrate the new season.
Farewell summer,
William

Do You Keep A Nature Log?
Do You Keep A Nature Log?
Do you keep a nature log?
I recommend it. It is part of your Simple Is Sophisticatedplan and part of your deliberate living program.
Here’s What You Do
Just make notes in log weekly or daily. It tunes you intothe seasons. I am just completing my first year in the newhome.
I am keeping my log in MS Word so I can keep enteringthings in the rhythm of the year. What I mean is, as theseasons repeat, I can insert the new information inside themonth of January cyclically and not sequentially. All theJanuary notes will go together. All the September entrieslikewise go together.
Are you with me?
I am not just tracking events and cool sightings butwanting to feel into the rhythms of place.
Then I can say things like, “The purple martins will beback any day now.”
Or with a sigh, “The ospreys will be leaving soon.”
I want to feel the presence of these events and rhythms inmy marrow.
Notice the ordinary and the glamorous. Admittedly, fledgling Bald Eagles impress, but all of nature ispotentially as amazing if you only see rightly. • The spider webs dripping with dew on cool sunny Septembermornings catching the light in ways that make you say,“Wow!”
• The osprey flying with his prey back to the nest.• The last leaf blowing away in the winter storm.
• Unidentified scat on the rocks below the seawallfascinated me for months.
• The first crocus.
Keep your entries simple enough so you’ll be inclined to doit regularly, and detailed enough to be useful. I stillhave the nature log I kept in 1980 in our underground solarhome on the edge of a forested ravine in Ohio. Theone-line notes still bring back the smells and the light ofthose woods.
I make entries on Sundays trying to recall the week. Some seasons stay fairly stable for weeks so I skip some weeks.
I challenge myself by seeing if I can tell when theswallows or the ospreys leave. I find it hard to noticewhen something is gone. Much easier to notice the arrivalof the swallows in May.
Watching nature this clearly trumps the old suggestion tostop and smell the roses wouldn’t you say. Stopping andsmelling the spiders doesn’t sound as good though, does it.
Keep a log. Dive into presence. Feel the rhythms. Fallin love with it all – that’s the promise.
If you want to see my Duwamish Head Nature Log, let me know.

August 14th, 2007 – An black eagle landed on a branch 20feet below an adult in our “eagle” tree.
It fell off while still holding on with its talons. Yikes!
It flapped and screeched to get back up on top of thebranch, barely succeeded. Woof!
Because of her clumsiness and her complete blackness, Isuspect she is a newly fledged bald eagle that I heardbegging for food at the nest last week. – fancy version of my entry in my Duwamish Head Nature Log.
Do you keep a nature log?
I recommend it. It is part of your Simple Is Sophisticatedplan and part of your deliberate living program.
When you pay attention to the rhythms of nature, invariablyyou engage in life more completely, with more presence. Your engagement will immerse you into your heart-felt life. I promise.
To pray is to pay attention to something or someone otherthan oneself. Whenever a man so concentrates hisattention— on a landscape, a poem, a geometrical problem,an idol, or the True God— that he completely forgets hisown ego and desires, he is praying. – W. H. Auden

Why You Need a Paper Route
“I’ve noticed,” Mom said, “ever since you got your paper route, you haven’t been sick.”
Having a paper route in the middle of the last century meant delivering papers to people’s homes seven days aweek, 365 days a year in rain, snow, summer dog days, and excellent weathers. It meant, in my case, exercising hard for 45 minutes up to an hour and a half on snowy Sunday mornings in the dark.
“Where have I heard this before?” you inquire politely.
“That’s right – Younger Next Year and Harry’s rules. Thefirst rule is exercise hard six days a week. Exercising triggers the rebuilding and healing processes in yourbody.”
“But you were just a kid, so you would have been healthy anyhow,” You challenge.
“That’s the point. I was not healthy. I was a sickly kid in some ways. My new standard of health, post paper route, was noticeable because of the massive contrast.”
Since the beginning of the year, eight months now, I have been exercising hard seven days a week -- How’s my health been?
Conclusion – I have been much healthier than my norm. Thatis no colds and flu – more energy and good spirits. I have increased my exercise just enough to get this benefit. Iwas exercising hard already, just not enough to reach thetipping point.
I will see how this plays out in the future.
Here’s a question for you:
On my Sabbatical to Walla Walla, Washington, I noted thatWhitman College has just built a shinny new Fitness Center. What do you make of the name – Fitness Center. What’s themessage they are giving to the students, faculty, alumni, and Walla Walla with that title.

Yummy Water? Fun Electrolytes, News from the Universe, Save the World
Are you sweating? It may be summer now where you live. If not, remember this for when it’s sweating season.
When you exercise six days a week as I have been recommending, you will sweat. You need to replace the fluids you sweat off. You can lose as much as a quart in a hard workout – drink water. Lots of it.
Don’t like water? Can’t stand the stuff? Hang on…
What else do you lose? If you peeked at the title of today’s piece you know. You sweat off electrolytes. Lick some sweat – it’s salty.
What are electrolytes, you ask? Mr. Dictionary says – 2. Physiology. any of certain inorganic compounds, mainly sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, chloride, and bicarbonate, that dissociate in biological fluids into ions capable of conducting electrical currents and constituting a major force in controlling fluid balance within the body.
The purveyors of sports drinks like Gatorade suggest you will benefit greatly by using their products. Others say just drink water and your diet will handle the rest. The researchers are undecided.
If you don’t replace your electrolytes what happens? Since electrolytes affect your muscles, heart and nervous system, horrible things can happen. But not likely for most people.
If you do replace or maintain your levels of electrolytes, you will most likely feel strong and vital. You will feel peppy even in the swelter. It’s a good thing.
My favorite way to boost my intake is to use Emergen C, a powdered product that fizzes when you add it to your water. It contains the alphabet of electrolytes and one gram of vitamin C in each packet. My naturopath recommended 1-3 packets a day for my general health. I do fairly well at complying.
Suzanne mixes one packet into quart bottle of water and finds this makes the water yummier. Improving the flavor of water with a tiny bit of glucose, researches say, gets you to drink more water. And that’s a good thing. Try it.
(I get the Lite version of Emergen C with even fewer carbohydrates.)
Vitacost is my favorite place to get Emergen C They have the best price, selection, and service. You can find it everywhere though.
Since table salt, NaCl, is the big player in your electrolyte soup of your body, you have a simple solution to loss of electrolytes -- add more table salt to your food.
Be salty this summer,
William
P.S. We get 90% of our vitamins and nutritional supplements from Vitacost.

Funny, {!firstname_fix}, how when one links job satisfaction to financial compensation, they're never paid "enough." Yet, when they see work as a way to dance with life, meet new people, and unleash the creative tiger within, they become very rich, indeed.

SAVE THE WORLD – ONE MORE LYTE
You probably know you can save a bunch of money by converting to compact flourescent light bulbs. You may know that if the USA as collective converted we would have no oil worries. You also probably know the quality of the light was sickly at best.
Well no more. Save the planet. Stop oil wars. Have good light.
Popular Mechanics designed a test pitting seven common CFLs against a 75-watt incandescent bulb. To gather objective data, we used a Konica Minolta CL-200 chroma meter to measure color temperature and brightness, and a Watts up? Pro ammeter to track power consumption. Our subjective data came from a double-blind test with three PM staffers and Jesse Smith, a lighting expert from Parsons The New School for Design, in Manhattan. We put our participants in a color-neutral room and asked them to examine colorful objects, faces and reading material, then rate the bulbs’ performance.

One of my delightful clients reported how much she enjoys getting the News of the Universe. It reminds her and inspires her. I agree. It is one of the few things I read faithfully.
If you aren’t enjoying the News from the Universe daily, you can have it emailed to you on a daily basis at no cost. Read my review.
Mike Dooley has just redone his site. It looks good.
Here’s one I got recently that might inspire you –
Funny, {!firstname_fix}, how when one links job satisfaction to financial compensation, they're never paid "enough." Yet, when they see work as a way to dance with life, meet new people, and unleash the creative tiger within, they become very rich, indeed.
Every kind of rich, {!firstname_fix}.

For Business Owners ONLY
* * * HOT NEWS ITEM * * *
For Business Owners ONLY
Heads up. Mark Joyner has created another gem – 7 Day Business Turnaround. As before, I haven’t seen this yet either. And I have liked everything Mark has done.
This will help any business, not just internet businesses.
From the Blog – http://tinyurl.com/yvt9pb

DO I NEED A BUSINESS TURNAROUND? (QUIZ)
DO I NEED A BUSINESS TURNAROUND? (QUIZ)
This simple quiz will tell you:
The World's Shortest Business Turnaround Quiz
When you get up every morning are you making decisions based on:
A. What you enjoy most and what is best for the long term interest of you, your family, and your company? Or ...
B. What you have to do immediately to solve your cash flow crisis?
If you answered B, then chances are you are in desperate need of a turnaround.
The problem is, most businesses stay in a perpetual state of stress and desperation. It's just like a job where you live paycheck to paycheck, but only worse: you work longer hours for less pay.
That's where a turnaround comes in.
Real lasting business growth doesn't happen until you pull yourself out of that desperate "cash strapped" state.
See, if you're constantly putting out cash flow fires, you simply don't have enough time to make lasting changes in your business. It's simple human dynamics.
So, an intelligent turnaround quickly takes you out of that state. And puts you in a state where long term growth is possible.

Two Magic Nutritional Supplements Zap Bad Guys
Two Magic Nutritional Supplements Zap Bad Guys
After reading Andrew Weil’s very useful book, Healthy Aging,
I decided to try some of his suggestions. (Just out in paperback.)
Weil favors Zyflamend, an anti-inflammatory supplement, composed of a half dozen herbs and other goodies. One herb included is turmeric, that’s right, the spice. It turns out that folks in India who eat a bunch of it have much lower incidences of Alzheimer’s disease.
Since I have some genetic predisposition to this inflammatory brain condition, I thought taking some would be a good plan. (It would be difficult to get enough in your food unless you shift to the full Indian cuisine of that region.)
They process the herbs used in Zyflamend in a way that preserves their effectiveness.
“OK, Andrew, I’m convinced. Now, where to get it?” I puzzled.
Google led me to Vitacost a new company for me. Vitacost sells a wide range of nutritional supplies at wholesale prices. They win awards.
“OK, I’ll try them.” I said. Their awards and their great prices easily swayed me.
You ask, “What about your old standby FitRx didn’t they carry Zyflamend?”
“No, they didn’t.”
My road tests with Vitacost prove to me they deserve my patronage. Clearly, I recommend them to you as well.
Here’s Why –
* Wholesale prices – no kidding.
* Good reliable delivery at a very reasonable price of $5 for any order – They ship around the world – different fees may apply, obviously.
* They offer a dynamite in-house line of products.
This story clearly illustrates – Dr. Weil recommends alpha lipoic acid (ALA) for several reasons. Primarily ALA promotes healthy cell function and may boost energy levels! Sign me up. (See below for more.)
So I thought I’d try it. My recent newsletter from Dr. Nancy Roberts recommended alpha lipoic acid for zapping free radicals. I checked it out at Vitacost and found their house brand, Nutraceutical Sciences Institute (NSI), was the best value. I tried a bottle and liked it. And continue to use their house brand and save big.
You’re a smart consumer, so you know that house brands often offer the best value – delivering good quality for the best price by cutting out the middle men/women.
* Vitacost has a free nutritional newsletter. OK, it looks like nothing but a bunch of ads, but I find the articles useful. I dump the rest. A recent article continues the good news for the inexpensive supplement alpha lipoic acid.
Research is showing that it helps to repair nerve damage associated with diabetes. Since diabetes plagues our modern world, especially in the USA, this supplement with its benefits is welcome. Various recommendations range from 300 - 800 mg? per day.
Certainly, sign up for the newsletter, and just delete what doesn’t serve you.
AS ALWAYS, CONSULT WITH YOUR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL WHO KNOWS YOUR HEALTH PATTERNS.
* You can also uncover a rich supply of nutrition information on the site. Scan the side bar on the left or use the search box. I trust their information as they base it on independent research studies.
MORE COOL STUFF
In the box labeled BROWSE in the left sidebar, you can find the newsletters and the Science / Health library – the science behind natural medicine.
YOU’LL BENFIT
Obviously, you would benefit from a five-minute exploration of the site and from these two supplements.
I use Vitacost for all my supplies, now. I only recommend that which I use. Clearly, you may wish to join me.

DETAILS ON THE SUPPLEMENTS
ZYFLAMEND
Zyflamend promotes normal cell growth. The manufacturer, New Chapter, has extensively researched the herbal pharmacopoeia and international medical databases and discovered that the following time-tested herbs, properly extracted and blended in the correct proportions, contain at least 8 phytonutrients that may safely and significantly promote a healthy inflammation response.
Perhaps, in more detail than you’re curious about, you can read about the herbs:
Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum): Contains ursolic acid, which significantly enhances detoxification and promotes a healthy inflammation response.
Turmeric: Unique curcumin phytonutrient complex, synergistic with green tea, significantly multiplying each herb's ability to promote healthy eicosanoid balance.
Ginger: Supercritical extract modulates both eicosanoid cascades and offers numerous anti-aging constituents.
Green Tea: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences report green tea polyphenols exert a beneficial effect on healthy eicosanoid balance. Major university database notes green tea contains 51 phytonutrients that promote a healthy inflammation response.
Rosemary: Dual extracts offer highly concentrated, full spectrum eicosanoid balance and support detoxification.
Hu Zhang (Polygonum cuspidatum): Richest known resveratrol source, with each daily serving delivering the approximate equivalent of six glasses of resveratrol rich wine.
Chinese Goldthread and Barberry: Unique berberine phytonutrient complex, naturally promotes a healthy inflammation response.
Oregano: Source of large number of phytonutrient modulators (31) according to USDA database.
Baikal Skullcap: Unique baicalin phytonutrient complex, naturally promotes healthy inflammation response.
ALPHA LIPOIC ACID
Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a vitamin-like compound with antioxidant properties. It promotes healthy cell function and may provide protective benefits against oxidative processes believed to contribute to degenerative diseases and aging.ALA has been called the "universal" antioxidant. Besides neutralizing unstable free radical molecules in the body, ALA may boost glutathione (one of the body's most powerful antioxidants) levels in cells. One of the most beneficial effects of ALA is its ability to regenerate other essential antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, coenzyme Q10, and glutathione.ALA is also a co-factor for some of the key enzymes involved in generating energy from food and oxygen in mitochondria. It may enhance energy levels while also assisting the body with maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. (More help in the battle with type II diabetes.)
