Altar Making Spoke to His Heart

Richard, a long time member of Body & Soul Mentor, sent me this very moving response to his reading Altar Making.  I thought you’d be inspired.

This moment I have downloaded your "Altar Making" and I find it just marvelous. Thank you. It spoke to my heart immediately.

When reading your piece, I was vividly remembered of my youth when I fabricated a lot of "thinking points" in our backyard, on the fence to my father's house, on my way to school... which in retrospect I would probably call "altars" now.

I have e.g. always felt in a very particular way when I was climbing our apple tree in the garden where I had built a tree hut for me alone. It was sort of a retreat for me.

Those memories are very dear to me, and I use some of them in my daily work with patients who have lost their connection.

        Best wishes,

Sacred Legos

As I was formatting well beloved book -- Altar Making --A Spiritual Practice to Deepen Your Connection to the Sacred for a Kindle version, one of my beloved clients shared her love of building with Legos.  She described her creations with loving passion.

Did you share her passion for building?  I did. Perhaps, you played with dolls or action figures?  remember how fun that was.  For me, I built things with blocks and populated the structures with anachronistic canon, trucks and cars and army men.  A lovely interplay unfolded with movement and imagination.  Enjoying the feeling the weight of the blocks and delighting in the structure taking shape.

My conversation with my client revealed to me that when you create your own altar, you feel that same playful pleasure that you felt as a child.  And when you bring in the Sacred, your satisfaction naturally deepens.

If you’re like me you may also find that your connection to the innocent heart of your inner child deepens and sweetens in this sacred practice of altar making or shrine building.

Just as you loved to play with blocks, Legos, dolls, or action figures, building altars will feed your heart and soul by connecting with your hands and your deep creativity.  And obviously, your soul is nourished in your deepening connection to the Sacred.

It’s wonderful.

In addition to my insights, I have seven friends, spiritual teachers all, that disclose their private experiences with building altars.  Their contributions will feed your heart and expand your horizons. They give you a wide range of surprising insights you will not find anywhere else.

Just imagine how nurturing it can be to build your own sacred altars and shrines.  I recommend you get the book and nurture your soul.

You can get the digital PDF version of Altar Making with color and your 300-day satisfaction money back guarantee here.

Walk in beauty,

William

P.S. the PDF version will only be available for sale until August 13th, then it only be available with a membership.

P.P.S. Members get it included in their membership both now and later.

Spiritual Practice & Carnegie Hall

You know this one: A visitor to New York City asks a local guy, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?”
The local says, “Practice. Practice. Practice!”

Today, I ask you, “How do you get to live a life you love?”

Same answer, “Practice!”

I have a practice of practicing those things that keep me living a life I love.  Over the year I have tried many things.  In a moment, I’ll share one with you, but first a ground rule.

There is no living happily ever after without continual practices.

Happiness is about circumstances, about chance.  Living a life you love is beyond circumstance.  If you need sunny skies to be happy, you’re subject to the ever changing whims of circumstances.  Living a life you love is about loving it all even in the inevitable rain or snow.

All spiritual traditions have suggestions for you on how to live a life you love.  Some have rules.  Rules aren’t practices; at least not how I think about practices.  We do rules because someone else said so.  You do practices because they work for you.  You have tested them in the crucible of your daily life.

Our Magicality Program Podcasts

As you know, Krysta Gibson and I took on a project to create a series of podcasts that would speak to the listener as if the three of us were having an intimate conversation together – You, me and Krysta just talking about things that matter.

One of our podcasts was about spiritual or life practices.  We gave ourselves a challenge and limited the list to five each.  Both of us use way more than five to navigate this world, but we settled on five we thought would be super useful for you.

You can listen to our Magicality Practices Podcast HERE.

A Fantastic Favorite Practice

Here’s one of my current favorites.  Just sit in a comfortable position, either on a cushion, cross legged on the floor or in a chair.  Then just FEEL the sensations of your breath flowing into your body and flowing out again.  It’s like being caressed by a supremely loving being from the inside.

One simple consequence of this practice is you will be deeply in the present moment.

What good is that?

Well, you’ll be happy.  Your nattering mind will be quiet.  You’ll be calm.

For this moment, you’ll be enlightened, at one with everything and everyone.  You’ll be peaceful.

And what more would you like?

How’s this?  If you have a problem, it will likely be solved by the time you arise.  Or a path to the solution will be evident and you can move on your new direction.

Get all 10 of the practices, test them in your life, and live a life you love.

Walk in beauty (Hint: that’s another practice),

William

P.S. What if just one of the practices could shift your life, so that you loved it ten times as much?

P.P.S. Pass this on to your friends, please.
